Gerald Dodson 22/04/2010 We had a great find with Reflex and in particular our instructor Jean Christophe. Not only is he an excellent instructor but he is also a delightful and professional man. He guaged the tempo to perfection and the childen he was teaching improved greatly through his patience and experience. Very highly recommended. (I hope that your daughter's arm mends quickly - a horse riding accident and not a skiing accident!!!). Charles, Lucy, Jamie, Eddie, Freddie, Sophie 12/04/2010 Dear Christophe, We really struck gold with Youri Gilg as our instructor for private lessons over 6 days at La Plagne. Lucy and I had skied before but the 4 children were all beginners (aged 7 to 11). Youri paced the instruction from beginning to end perfectly, addressing the needs of each of us intimately and with great sensitivity (il est tres sympathique!). From the first day with an excellent introduction (why do we enjoy ski-ing? Because it is Fun and we can enjoy Nature. What is snow made of? Beautiful crystals. And so on) and simple, straight, gentle downhill runs on the nursery area with no stopping, we were all going happily down the blue runs by the afternoon of Day 2 (and turning and stopping!). Youri looked after me very well (I was affected by the altitude and age!) and was always kind and considerate. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and knew just how far to take us at each stage. We did not discover that he had been ranked 3rd in the world in the 1992 Winter Olympics until nearly the end of our stay. In addition to a good command of English and a clear and intuitive understanding of the level of development and ambitions of each individual in his care, Youri is one of Nature's gentlemen and we all felt that we bonded with him wonderfully. We would recommend him without hesitation to anyone wishing to learn to ski - and to learn more about our natural world. Great. Thank you. Reflex is the best ski school the boys have attended and we were were particularly impressed how everyone was treated as an individual and the feedback we got each day on the boys' progress. Christophe - we really appreciated how you looked after Tim, particularly mid week when he was a bit low - we were staggered how much he developed during the week - on Friday he was ready for any run we went on. Sam & Dominic had a great time with Fred particularly on Friday's black runs and off piste excursion! we were very sad to be going home and look forward to seeing you next time we come to la Plagne. We have just returned home from a week in La Plagne and 5 days of lessons with the wonderful Claude. He dealt brilliantly with a very mixed group - 1 beginner, 1 wobbly, 1 rusty but experienced. Claude went at a pace which suited us all but also focused on our individual needs to ensure that we all improved significantly by the end of the week. His knowledge of the area really is second to none and we explored areas we never would have found on our own. It's also a pleasure to experience the personal but professional service of a small ski school - Christophe was friendly, helpful and flexible. We will happily recommend you all to our friends! B, R & E Karen and Gary Price 01/04/2010 We really had to give some feedback on our private lessons with Reflex because they were sooo good! Christophe took us from being rusty intermediates to tackling moguls for the first time, skiing off-piste and even throwing in the odd jump! As I'm not always the most confident skier, this was quite an achievement. Christophe took things at just the right pace to help us get our technique right before progressing to anything more challenging. He had a real knack for explaining not only how to improve our technique but also why this would work. We will visit La Plagne again just to have more lessons with Christophe! This was only our second week skiing and Christophe made the difference between us coming along slowly and us having the confidence to try out new and different runs, and we have an excellent week because of his encouragement. You met all the needs of a very mixed ability group of skiers and did so with a laugh and a lot of patience. We will deinitley be back for more expert guidance next year. Tracey V 20/03/2010 We just wanted to record our comments about Reflex; an excellent ski school that was flexible, professional, reliable, experienced, friendly and spoke good english. We were a large group of 14, 7 adults and 7 children, of varying abilities so we used three different ski instructors. Thierry for our advanced skiing and snowboarding, Gege for our intermediate lessons and all the children just loved Youri (they were so impressed to know he had been in the Olympics). We all progressed hugely during the week and were shown a wide variety of slopes. The children would not have found all the jumps and side tracks if they had been with us all week (or had as much fun!). They loved showing us where they had been in the mornings, even down the half-pipe! We can't thank Reflex enough, Christophe was very accommodating, especially when we wanted to book more lessons later on in the week (as we had enjoyed them so much). He had so much patience with us, we learnt so much and had lots of laughs....very very enjoyable and he knew how to get the best out of us. Nico’s English was also excellent, far better than our French, so we had no problems understanding what he wanted us to do. His knowledge of the area was excellent so he always knew the perfect slopes to take us. Nico also taught our 10 year old sons, Benjamin, Callum and Thomas for 2 afternoons.....lots of off piste skiing....Nico, they think you are really cool and the best instructor they’ve ever had. Les autres années nos enfants rechignaient à aller aux cours de ski dans une école très connue mais où les enfants pouvaient être jusqu'à 14 par cours. Cette année grace à Reflex nous avons découvert le plaisir des cours particuliers : nous étions 3 familles et avons pris 2 cours particuliers 1 pour nos 3 garçons et un pour les 3 filles. Que du bonheur ! Nous avons pris les cours de 9h à 11h : nous étions ainsi en décalé par rapport aux autres écoles. Les profs étaient géniaux ( Merci Jean-Christophe et Thierry). Les enfants se sont tous éclatés (dans le bon sens du terme ! ). A l'année prochaine ... The lessons were challenging, yet good fun and after each one I felt I'd made measurable progress. Though a long way from the black runs ;) I was over the moon to have managed a couple of little red runs on our last day! Lorraine Claridge 15/02/2010 A huge thank you to Nico for taking on our group of 6 beginners with such patience last week (6th Feb – 12th Feb 2010). We quickly developed into two separate groups of abilities and Nico handled this really well ensuring that all of us got as much out of the lessons as we could. By the end of the week all of us were very happy with how much we had learnt! Sadly, due to some minor injury and knocked confidence, we didn’t manage the red run at the end of the week but we skied a beautiful blue run and on the Saturday we all went out and skied a full day of blue runs which would have seemed impossible at the start of the week! Nico was an excellent instructor and spoke really good English despite us trying to confuse him with some colloquial phrases! He even taught us some French while we were out there. Nous sommes vos petites poules mouillées ;) Also a big thank you to Christophe for helping me book the lessons, I was very glad we booked with Reflex and will definitely use them again to do some intermediate lessons the next time we visit La Plagne! Claude challenged us and it paid off when we progressed from a wobbly journey down the nursery slope on Monday to conquering a few red runs without too much drama by the end of the week. His local knowledge of the slops was invaluable in helping us plan routes on our own later, and we had great fun chatting with him in the chair lifts and playing on the (almost) death-defying bumps and drops. This being our second skiing holiday there was still lots to learn helping us all to improve our techniques (which was harder for some than others!). No confidence rubbish skiing, Left leg didn't want to carve.. Jerry you sorted the lot thank you so much. Left leg still dodgy but that is a lifetime of bad habits and was 200% better after the lesson. Confidence restored and my hubby Kev can't beleieve that I didn't have one day after the lesson where I moaned that I couldn't get down this slope or that one because it was too icy etc. He sends his thanks as well. After not skiing for five years, and just about managing the blues you'll be proud to hear that I skiied four different reds on my last day on my own! The quality of tuition was superb, and Christophe is one of the few people who can "shout" at you nicely and make you smile, and it works. I can still hear "get down, stand up!" and I'm now a much better skier thanks to Christophes infinate patience and teaching skills. If you are after the highest quality tuition in La Plagne, then don't waste your time looking elsewhere, I'll be back to hit my first black runs next year!! I have been skiing for about 20 years however have had only a few number of lessons during this time so I decided to book up with Christoff to brush up and work on my technique - I was lucky enough to get an instructor by the name of Claude. Just goes to show how wrong first impressions can be, as Claude is not the youngest or most athletic looking amongst the team. Claude is a fine and extremely experienced instructor and taught me a great deal in just 2 lessons. La Plagne is not the most challenging resort but I would consider returning to benefit from more instruction with Claude - Highly recommended, a great school. My wife and I had not skied for 20 yrs and our children aged 12 and 14 had never skied before. Within two or three hours under Thierry's instuction I had regained most of my old form and the children were skiing with style and confidence. The four lessons that we had with Thierry were not only great fun but pushed us all just the right amount. I couldn't believe the progress that we, and especially the children made in just 4 lessons. Thanx Alot Rory Atkinson SA ski Junky Please reply to ratki06@somcol.co.za Thanx Again Jed, Lou, George & Oliver 19/04/2004 15th – 19th March - As one of a group of three families with 8 children ranging from 4 to 9 and having been through the ESF factory style of ski school we were certainly very pleased to have a friendly relaxed family run approach to teaching our boys. The experience of a week away in the snowy mountains is something that should be enjoyed and appreciated, every single day our two boys woke up pestering us to when Stacey (excellent Ski Beat Nanny) would be coming to take them to their lesson. Its great to see your kids grow and learn new things for this I must applaud Christophe, Benji and the other Reflex instructors as they all were helpful, friendly and a little cooler than dad. I am sure the boys won’t forget Benji in a hurry. Looking through the comments below its clear to see that it wasn’t only my wife that thought Chrisophe was a great instructor who has the skill of passing his knowledge on. At least I think that is why she wanted a lesson with him ;-) We will see you next year and will be booking with Reflex again, thanks for making it a memorable week and we will be bringing another family with us so be warned….. Between the moguls, the off-piste now and again, the short turns with poles in the air, carving at speed and doing that baby black run, this skier of 3 weeks has a lot to practice! The 4 in our group were delighted we opted for the Reflex private lesson package rather than ski school. As an added bonus it was cheaper! Am looking forward to next year and tackling that "Real" La Plagne black run, remembering to ignore the scenery and get off the drag lift and most importantly getting all weight on that down-hill ski. Watching the ESF snake past with most of the children so far from the instructor that they could not have a chance to learn made us pleased to have spent a little more but get much much more from the experience. Le jour où on a eu cours ensemble, il neigeait et il y avait un brouillard de folie. Et ça a été la meilleure journée de ski que j'aie jms eue. Marisa, Dave, Alison, James & co. 25/02/2004 Just come back from a fabulous week skiing in la Plagne - missing the sun, snow and 'vin chaud' already! While we were there we arranged private tuition with 'Reflex' & Christophe was extremely helpful in creating a program for us to suit our needs, including video analysis. We all felt our confidence and technique had significantly improved by the end of the week, which was undoubtedly down to the expert guidance of our instructor, Bebert - a champion skier - although he needs to practise his double-back flip! He is always friendly, upbeat and encouraging. He is very skilled and very good at passing on his abilities,even to total beginers like myself. His teaching manner is affable and easy going and the ladies in particular will succumb to his charms. ;) By the end of the week I was actually skiing quite confidently! To top it all he invited our small group out for a free lesson on the more tricky slopes on our last day to make sure we wouldnt kill ourselves. Top Bloke,great instructor!
